How to get the most out of Skills Up School courses?

User: Решили учиться цифровой графике или рисунку? To study it was cool from the first minute of the lesson, we will give you 5 tips on how to prepare for the courses. For 7 years of experience teaching students in the CG industry, we collected them like treasures. We already anticipate the question: “And why bother preparing for the courses? You come and learn, what else do you need?!”. You can do it this way. But just a couple of hours of preparation will allow you to feel more confident and get the most out of the courses.

So, the treasured tips:

Determine your learning goals

A global and very interesting task is to understand what you want from the course. If you are studying 2D graphics — do you want to find work in the gaming industry in the future or draw illustrations for books? If you are studying drawing — do you need it for admission or have you mastered CG and want to improve your skills? What about 3D graphics — do you want to build a career as a 3D artist or do you want to use 3D for 2D projects? At the first lesson, the curators get to know the students, and it is important for us to know what tasks you set for yourself, what you want to get from the course. This way, we will understand what to focus on in your training. For us, "an individual approach to the student" is not just an advertising lure. And yes, the options "I just want an interesting hobby" and "I draw for myself to unload my brain from work" are also wonderful.

Try the tools "with your hands" before the start of the course

If you come to study "from scratch", a day or two before the courses, open the programs, look at the interface, try to use the tools. Of course, our curators will explain everything to you from the very basics, show you hot keys, tools, and everything, in detail. And if it’s not clear, they will explain it again. But if you take preparatory steps yourself, then already at the first lesson you will feel in the subject and sort out your questions with the curator, using the time as efficiently as possible. For example, for those who are studying drawing — you can practice simple exercises or look through books on academic drawing.

Match your learning goals and the course program

Before you go to study, you probably study the course program. You can clarify the details of the program with our administrators, think about what you will work on, and think in this direction: over the topic of the project, the general concept. For example, students of the 2D graphics BASIC course draw a sign. You can come up with in advance for which institution this sign will be intended and even look for references — so directly in the course you will quickly start practicing.

Drop your shyness and allow yourself to make mistakes

At Skills Up School, we are all friendly, ready to listen to your questions and work together on your creative growth. There will be no super-strict criticism, reproaches and moralizing here — only joint work with the curator in the name of skills! So do not hesitate to ask, do not be afraid of mistakes and смело проявлять себя.

Have a good rest!

No, we are serious — if you have such an opportunity, treat yourself to a little rest, so that later you can plunge headlong into the creative process. We will definitely not let you get bored — there will be a lot of practice. A LOT. We wish everyone productive studies! See you at Skills Up School! P.S. The author of the illustrations you see in this article is a student of the 2D graphics PRO course, Daria Kravchenko.
